Batris
Mae’r cyfarwyddyd hwn ar gyfer busnesau ailgylchu sy’n ailgylchu batris.
Mae tri dosbarth o fatri gwastraff:
- batris modurol
- batris diwydiannol
- batris cludadwy.
For further information, see our batteries guidance.
If you want to apply to offer a battery compliance scheme that collects, treats and recycles waste portable batteries, you must register with your environmental regulator between 15 April and 15 May in the year before you operate the scheme.
What you must do
Apply for a permit or licence
If you treat or recycle waste batteries you must have:
- an environmental permit in England and Wales
- a waste management licence in Northern Ireland and Scotland.
You must comply with the conditions in your permit or licence or you can be fined or sent to prison.
If you treat waste batteries and your environmental permit or waste management licence was issued before the dates listed in the table below, you must comply with the following conditions:
- remove all fluids and acids from the batteries
- store waste batteries, and the materials that result from treatment, in secure, covered and impermeable areas.
These conditions have been added to your permit by law.
Key dates
| England and Wales |
Northern Ireland |
Scotland |
| 5 May 2009 |
20 May 2009 |
6 July 2009 |
If your environmental permit or waste management licence was issued after these dates, you must comply with the conditions in your permit.
Apply to be an approved battery treatment operator
As well as having an environmental permit or waste management licence, you must apply to your environmental regulator to be an approved battery treatment operator (ABTO) if you want to:
- carry out the initial treatment or recycling of automotive or industrial batteries from 1 January 2010
- issue batteries evidence notes for the treatment and recycling of waste portable batteries from 1 January 2010.
Apply to be an approved battery exporter
You must apply to your environmental regulator to be an approved battery exporter (ABE) if you want to:
- export waste industrial or automotive batteries for treatment or recycling from 1 January 2010
- issue batteries evidence notes for exporting waste portable batteries for treatment and recycling from 1 January 2010.
Os ydych yn casglu a chludo batris rhaid i chi fod yn gludwr gwastraff cofrestredig neu ddal eithriad.
Gwastraff peryglus
Caiff y rhan fwyaf o fatris gwastraff eu dosbarthu fel gwastraff peryglus/arbennig. Maent yn cynnwys cemegolion a metelau â’r potensial i fod yn niweidiol. Rhaid i chi ddilyn rheoliadau ar gyfer delio â gwastraff peryglus/arbennig.
Mae batris yn cynnwys cemegolion sy’n hynod llygrol, fflamadwy a ffrwydrol.
Keep spill kits near to where you might need them with clear instructions for their use. Make sure your staff know where they are and how to use them.
They can contain:
- absorbent materials, eg sand
- containment equipment, eg booms
- pumps and suction equipment
- pipe blockers
- drain mats.
Make an inventory of all the equipment and materials you have on site. These should be suitable for the type and quantity of fuel, oil and chemicals you store and use.
Storio, trin a chludo
Storiwch a chludwch fatris mewn cesys sy’n ddiogel, yn ddwrglos, yn gallu gwrthsefyll tân, yn ddiddos rhag diferiadau asid ac alcali, yn ddiysgog ac wedi’u labelu’n glir. Sicrhewch fod gan eich cerbydau casglu gyfleusterau digonol, gan gynnwys stelinau y gellir eu cloi, er myn cludo batris yn ddiogel.
Casglwch fatris ynghyd yn ôl eu cemeg. Er enghraifft, storiwch fatris asid-plwm gyda’i gilydd a pheidiwch â’u cymysgu â batris nad ydynt yn rhai asid-plwm, oherwydd medrai hyn achosi adwaith cemegol. Ystyriwch ddefnyddio systemau mordwyo meddalwedd er mwyn eich helpu i ddilyn trywydd llwythi’n fwy effeithlon.
Rhaid i chi sicrhau na chaiff batris eu malu, eu cywasgu ac nad yw eu seliau na’u casin yn cael eu torri. Er enghraifft, petai casin batri lithiwm ïon , fel y rheiny a ddefnyddir mewn ffonau symudol, yn cael ei gracio a’i amlygu i ddŵr tra’n cael ei gludo, medrai’r batri ddyfod yn fflamadwy, a medrai hefyd achosi llygredd o gemegolion yn diferu drwy’r casin.
Rhaid i chi atal cylchedau byrion. Gall batri a falwyd neu a graciwyd achosi cylched byr yn fewnol a dyfod yn fflamadwy. Clymwch eich batris yn sownd tra’n eu cludo er mwyn eu hatal rhag symud a chael eu difrodi. Paciwch fatris ar wahân er mwyn eu hatal rhag cyffwrdd â’i gilydd, ac ag unrhyw wyneb metel neu hylif a fedrai achosi cylched byr.
Os ydych yn trin batris â holltau ( batris sy’n gollwng nwyon i’r atmosffer) rhaid i chi eu cadw wedi’u hawyru’n dda bob amser er mwyn atal nwyon a fedrent ffrwydro grynhoi.
Peidiwch â thynnu batris ar led eich hunan . Mae hyn yn beryglus dros ben.
Cysylltwch â chynhyrchwr y batri cyn i chi storio, trin neu gludo’r batris. Gofynnwch am y Ddalen Data Diogelwch Deunyddiau (MSDS). Bydd hon yn disgrifio’r cemegolion yn y batri.
Gwaharddiad ar waredu batris
Rhaid i chi beidio â gwaredu batris diwydiannol neu fodurol gwastraff mewn safle tirlenwi neu drwy eu llosgi ar ôl 1 Ionawr 2010. Nid yw hyn yn cynnwys gweddillion a gawsant eu trin a’u hailgylchu yn unol â’r rheoliadau batris.
Store all chemicals in an area where spills can be contained. This should be within a secondary containment system (SCS), such as a bund. The SCS should be able to contain at least 110% of the volume of the largest tank or 25% of the total volume likely to be stored, whichever is greater.
Have a pollution incident response procedure for dealing with spills. Ensure your staff understand the procedure and know how to follow it.
Report pollution incidents to the incident hotline as soon as they happen on 0800 80 70 60.

Cadwch gyfnodau storio ar gyfer batris ar eich safle mor fyr ag y bo modd. Cynlluniwch o flaen llaw ar gyfer adegau prysur a cheisio cyd-drefnu casgliadau fel bod sypiau sy’n barod i’w cludo i ailbroseswyr yn crynhoi’n gyflym.
Storiwch fatris mor bell ag y bo modd i ffwrdd o unrhyw ddraeniau, cyrsiau dŵr, neu ddyfroedd wyneb.
